Envelope Templates let you save a complete envelope configuration and reuse it to create new envelopes without reconfiguring from scratch each time. Templates are useful for any signing workflow where the structure is fixed but the specific parties or documents change between instances — onboarding agreements, NDAs, approval chains, or any recurring document type.
Envelope Templates follow the same structure as envelopes — if you haven't already, read the Envelopes page first. For a step-by-step walkthrough of creating and using a template, see Create an Envelope from a Template.
A template captures the full envelope configuration — documents, recipients, field placements, signing order, notification settings, and expiry rules. When you create an envelope from a template, it inherits this configuration entirely. Specific values like recipient email addresses, subject, or message can be overridden at creation time without modifying the template itself.
